Yellow Feathers and We All Need a Pick Up Man Campaign

Have you seen the yellow feathers in all the cowboy hats recently?  These feathers are part of a suicide awareness and prevention campaign that is being shared among rodeo fans out west.  The campaign is built around the role of the rodeo pick-up man. The campaign encourages people to be that “pick-up man” to someone else by being there for them and lifting their spirits, and for those who need a hand up, to reach out for a pick-up man.

Garth Brooks’s video opened the bronc riding for the last 2 years at Cheyenne Frontier Days reminding us that all of us sometimes need somebody to help pick us up, and that reaching out to a pickup man is a common and noble thing.

Quoted from Bronc Riding Nation, “Our walk here is short and filled with beauty. Dark times come and pass, and at some point, we’ll all need a friend to help us through. ALL of us. Not all hero’s wear capes, some wear cowboy hats!”
